The process to standardise Java through ECMA has started. A meeting was held in California this week by ECMA and Sun. Three working groups were set up: Java Language Specification, Java Virtual Machine Specification and Java Core API Specification. Interesting to see Microsoft heavily involved (they're chairing the API working group). Hopefully this should calm down some of the battles currently being fought over Java.
