The Java Apache Project is creating an open source Java framework for Apache. This is based around Servlets and they have plans to utilise this architecture in a number of areas, including a messaging server. Other projects of note are JMeter, a load and performance monitoring tool, and Cocoon, an XML and XSL publishing system.
