I’m unfrotunately one of those in the cam of thinking Web 2.0 is a marketing term. So lets try this another way…

What is the difference between Web 1.0 and Web 2.0?

If it is a major version revision of the WWW, what has been revised and upgraded?… And don’t say Ajax, because that is and was firmly part of Web 1.0 many years ago when we called it rpc or iframe buffering.

Classification, automatic or otherwise can be binned as most bleeding edge semantic web classification is still not up to par with pre-Web online based classification systems.

The scripting, rpc, one page web apps, the classification… it’s all old…. it’s pre-2000 for christs sake… If we move past the warm fuzzy gut feelings what of substance is left to lay claim to “Web 2.0″?… What is the difference between 1 and 2 beside another buzzword?

Guy, you’re hung up on AJAX. Web 2.0 is about free-flowing data. If people want to build rich clients to consume it then that’s cool. If the data ain’t open then it ain’t Web 2.0.
