More Comment Spam

I’m still getting comment spam, despite the posting timeslot idea. Obviously the assumptions I made there were unsound. So, here’s the supplement that might raise the bar a little. If you want to comment on an entry here, you now have to enter a particular word of a well known quotation. If you don’t or enter the wrong word then you get locked out for 10 seconds (a standard WordPress feature).

(code to follow if it’s successful…)

  1. nice idea – another one would be: creating a WordPress – or maybe even a weblog-software independent – TaskForce against Comment Spam ;)other nice ideas would be: using bayesian filter methods, combined with timestamp, $_POST and HTTP_REFERER-checks (timestamp, because a normal user would at least take some time to write a comment, and even if it was just a few words long, $_POST- and HTTP_REFERER-checks because if the other side is using the GET-method, its quite obvious that the request didnt come from your own page). And last but not least: I’ve added a QuickMsg-form on my page – got much propably as comment spam submitted spam – obviously the bots scan for ANY form thats available on something called weblog!cu, w0lf.
