dbXML is a releatively new project to create a database designed for storing XML content. A relational database soon becomes overly complex when storing heterogenous XML documents and an object database may be overkill for what is essentially textual information. What is needed is a database that understands the relationships between and within XML documents and provides a strong query interface. There's not much code available yet and it looks like the project needs some extra developers for what could be a very useful application.
